04/16/2010 - National Community
Education Association Hires New Executive Director and Management
Company
NCEA recently entered into a one year contract
with the Drohan Management Group (DMG) located in the greater
Washington, D.C. area to provide our association with general
association management, membership support services, conference
management and program development, and financial operations and
management. DMG officially began providing service on March 1. DMG has a
proven track record of providing excellent management services to
several associations. Our Business Manager at DMG is Andrea Falzarano.
In
addition, we recently hired John Myers as an independent contractor to
serve as the NCEA Executive Director. This position focuses on advocacy
in legislative issues; representing NCEA in work with our current and
future partners both in the Washington, D.C. area and around the
country; and serving as the official "face" of NCEA. As the Executive
Director, John will work very closely with DMG regarding the management
of the association's operations. In addition, John is establishing a
residency in the Washington, D.C. area.
John has been an NCEA
member for more than 25 years. He served six years on the NCEA Board of
Directors; served on the NCEA Legislative Committee; created and led the
first three "Days on the Hill" sponsored by NCEA. He has worked for
the National Conference of State Legislatures; is a former member of
the Kansas House of Representatives where he served for six years; a
former Community Education Coordinator; worked for the Kansas Governor's
Office and the former Kansas Center for Community Education. He is
currently Vice President of APA Consulting. John has extensive
Washington, D.C. experience which will serve NCEA as we build and
rekindle our association's relationship with partners in the D.C. area.
Throughout
this transition process, the Board has remained steadfast in its desire
to retain the richness of the association's involvement in committee
work, training and decisions that affect the association and the field
of community education. NCEA has a bright future ahead. With the skills
and expertise of DMG and John Myers as our new Executive Director, NCEA
has the capacity to move forward while continuing to meet our goals of
commitment to community education, fiscal responsibility, and optimum
services to our members and partners.
