Helping Our Kids Become Readers
"Helping Your Child Become a Reader" is a 55 page booklet available on the U.S. Department of Education's web site: www.ed.gov/pubs/parents/Reader/.
It offers dozens of activities families may use to help young children (birth – 6 years old) learn the alphabet, play with rhymes, "read" picture books, act out poems, and more. It also provides tips for taking charge of TV, visiting the library, summer reading, and learning with computers.
